Furring and drainage gaps
A path for water and air behind the siding.

Weatherproofing & Moisture Protection
A small gap behind the siding gives water a place to drain and air a way to dry the wall, which matters most with wood and fiber cement.

A rainscreen is a ventilated, drained space between the weather barrier and the siding, usually made with furring strips or a drainage mat. Wind-driven rain that gets behind the siding drains down and out, and air moving through the gap helps the back of the siding and the wall dry. The gap reduces the chances of moisture buildup, paint failure on the backs of boards and mold.
We build rainscreens across Nashville and Middle Tennessee on siding projects where moisture control matters most: wood, fiber cement, engineered wood and homes in shaded, humid settings. We install furring in line with the studs, screen the openings at the top and bottom so insects stay out and detail window and door trim to match the added depth.
